I can never find the big mop-headed burgundy-coloured
with curled petals chrysanthemums that
Mrs Miniver brings home so triumphantly,
so when I saw these lovely physalis
crushed against some park railings,
I knew what I had to do.
It was only a matter of minutes,
and I had a cornucopia of my own.
So lucky that the florist had a lovely spray for £1.50.
I was just out taking pictures of some of mine this afternoon. They aren't quite ready to bring in yet. They are frequently referred to as Chinese lanterns here.
ReplyDeleteThey must thrive on neglect - I keep trying to grow them and get nowhere! I must hot foot it down to the florist - £1.50 - worth every penny!
ReplyDeleteThey are so very, very wantable, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteThey always remind me of school. There were two shrubs in an otherwise boring bed, surrounded by a low brick wall, which was the favoured place to sit during break. I don't think I could bring myself to pay money for them after that, although they are lovely to draw!
