Let it go

Please check your pockets, drawers and outhouses.
I have lost a necklace.
It is made from dozens of tiny multi-coloured semi-precious gemstone beads
with one central silvered wooden disc.
It was bought as a present from the Dartington Cider Press.
It isn't lost because I hid it in a safe  place.
It is just lost.

I wore it every day - would take it off
and put it in my bowl every night.
Every morning, I put it on again.

I have looked in all the reasonable places.
Pockets, drawers, bags, pockets, bags, drawers,
under the bed, down the side of chairs, the car,
pockets of summer clothes, kitchen bin, inside wellies,
purse, pockets of other people's coats, the fridge,
linen cupboard, saucepans, compost bin,
other people's bags, medicine cabinet,
behind the wardrobe,
pockets.
And now I want you to look.

Or should I let it go?

  1. Sorry, I've looked in the little jar on the shelf in the dining room which is where I put my daughter's engagement ring for safe keeping (and then forgot where I'd put it - temporarily - argh). Unaccountably, your necklace isn't there. I hope light dawns. (It's not in your leather jacket pocket? I've just read that post out to my husband and we both chortled, which was very good since we're both feeling very sad since our little cat Cassie has died and we're BEREFT).

    1. Thank you for looking and I am so sorry to hear about Cassie. I'm glad if anything makes you smile, but I know it's tough.

  2. Oh but it only really gets going at 1.18!

  3. Check your dustbin, your dressing gown pocket, and the freezer - it could've dropped into any of these. How sad that something you treasure has gone missing ... but that's always the case; you seldom lose something you aren't so keen on simply because you never use it, so it just stays in one place forever, gathering dust ...

    1. Yes and you are right to suggest it. Some strange things have been found in there when one has been on auto pilot.

  5. I have had jewellery just disappear like that.Totally frustrating. Then one day, with no glasses on and no contact lenses in, I rolled over in bed, looked just over the side of the mattress and there was my earring, sitting in a tiny space in the grooves that hold the bed slats in place. Who'd have thought. The other place where I regularly lose my watch, car keys etc is my apron. I'm wise to that one now. Good luck with finding it. Oh another idea, as a last resort I often offer an eleven year old a pound to find something. The last thing was a dead rat under the piano that I could smell and my husband swore was not in the house.

    1. We had a dead rat once but it was under the floor and we just had to wait it out, flies and all.

  6. I expect it will turn up where and when you least expect it.

  7. Lucille, I do hope that you will be reunited with that pretty necklace.

The let it go best selling vocalist also starred in Wicked to great acclaim, and is now on Broadway in a musical called If/Then. I am glad that she's getting lots of parts and fame, but admit that I don't enjoy the sound of her voice.

Promised you an email. I will tend to that now. xo

  8. I hope you find you necklace. Did you try on clothing at a store? Check with your local stores or places you visit. I lost a camera one time and it turned up some days later at a hotel I had visited.
Good luck and Happy New Year

    1. I've rung the cinema. I can't think of anywhere else other than the great outdoors and I can't search that!

  9. The only way I ever find a lost item is to buy a replacement and then as if by magic the lost one comes home.

    1. Yes that is a tried and tested method here too.

  10. I do hope you find your favourite necklace. I once lost my wedding ring for a couple of days. I never take it off except to put on hand lotion. One day I looked down on the floor and there it was, just tucked in to the side of the sofa.
Catholics pray to St. Anthony of Padua to find lost things. It's worth a try :)

  11. As my mum used to say:" Tie up the devil!" This means that if you are sure the thing has disappeared in your house (usually absentmindedly put at a wrong place), then tie a belt (I use fabric ones) to a chair's foot. It stays there until you find the lost thing. Or until the moment you lose hope and give up.:) It's funny, yes, but I have tried it and sometimes it works! Good luck!

  12. I'm not Catholic, but I'm with Rebecca S. And St. Anthony usually comes through for me! Be sure to say thanks if he does!

  13. I lose earrings. Just one at a time. And only if it is a favorite. I am certain they go on walkabout and prefer ill-advised adventures to tagging along with me. I have considered wearing the ones left behind to give them a shot at a life of high jinks and jollification, but what would people think? Perhaps your necklace is on a slow boat to Rio to join up with my mismatched earrings for Carnival.
