The End*

When I was One,
I had just begun.

When I was Two,
I was nearly new.

When I was Three
I was hardly me.

When I was Four
I was not much more.

When I was Five,
I was just alive.

But now I am Six, I'm as clever as clever.
So I think I'll be Six now for ever and ever.

And if you have been:
thanks for reading
as this blog enters its seventh year
and I have a little think
about whither next.

* The last poem in Now We Are Six
by A.A. Milne.

  1. Thank you for a blog which is always a pleasure to visit!

  2. Your six gives me a kick, hope it heads to seven, that would be heaven.

  3. Lucille, how I do love that poem from one of my favorite childhood books.

How glad I am to have had the pleasure of visiting here for some time now. I'm looking forward to your seventh year!

Thanks also for those splendid photographs from Sissinghurst...a place I have yet to visit in person. I smiled to see the moat's the same color as our Central Park lake was very recently.

  4. happy blog birthday, I hope the next year is filled with happy things to blog about x

  5. I hope that doesn't sound like a finish...? I love popping in here to see what you are up to...

  6. Hang on in there. Yay for grey!

Love your pinafore dress. It won't be five minutes before it is covered with home made play dough and we want to see it all.x

  7. It's been a joy following along. Looking forward to more birthdays.

  8. Seven years is a looooong time - well done for keeping at it - I have been reading longer than I have been commenting - but always enjoy your quirky posts - you look a little sad in the picture - I hope this doesn't mean the end of Useful or Beautiful!

  9. Hi Lucille, congratulations on a very auspicious blogging birthday!

  10. Dear Lucille
Thank you for all that you have shared with us over the past six years. Through you I have been to Japan and latterly to the seaside but it had been the glimpses of light in your beautiful home that have been the most delightful, small rainbows in everyday life.

I do hope this is not The End. I can sympathise with the need to evolve but you are creating a record of who you are which your family will always treasure.

  11. Happy Blogaversary! Such a sweet celebration!:) The seventh year is very important and special... I wish you many happy occasions and wonderful experiences to maintain your desire for blogging!

  12. Reading, and enjoying and appreciating. I always adored that poem ... in fact I always say I'm six plus a lot of ones. Here's hoping your lovely blog will be acquire some ones too.

  13. More of the same, please! Your blog is one of my favourites. Happy blogday. I think mine must be over 8 now. 8 and a half. My life has changed a lot since I started and not entirely for the better. Ah well. The grandchildren are a great joy.

  14. ...whither next... wishing you well.

  15. I do hope you decide to continue - this is one of my favourite blogs and always a pleasure to visit.

  16. I am another who hopes that you continue blogging as I enjoy your writing very much. Happy Anniversary too.

  17. Happy anniversary! I love your blog. It is always just right--photos and text and wit.

  18. A.A. Milne was a favourite of my dad's and is still a favourite of mine and Mom's. Our favourite was always 'James, James, Morrison, Morrison, Weatherby George Dupree. Took great care of his mother, though he was only three.'

Please keep up the blog. It is always sunshine on a cloudy day. However, I want you to be happy and satisfied!
