Training Day

Determined to get better use out of our Senior Railcards this year,

we decided on an ambitious day trip,

which necessitated a 5 a.m start,

and approximately eleven hours sitting on trains,

because that's what it takes to get to Edinburgh and back.

It was worth it.
I've been hearing so much about True to Life, British Realists in the 1920s and 30s.
No photos allowed but you can read about it here.

So now we've been pretty far west, pretty far east and pretty far north.
Pretty far south will soon get our feet wet,
so it may have to be south west next.

  1. Went to look at the article on British Realists, loved the paintings. Thanks for the link. Eleven hours on a train YIKES!

  2. Actually I like travelling on trains . The occasional cup of coffee , a supply of sandwiches and apples and a good book . Perfect . And you're delivered to the center of the city ... no tiresome car parks .

    1. We were treated royally in our discounted First Class seats. A meal was brought to our table with drinks and top ups throughout the journey. And it delivered us just a few minutes walk from the gallery.

We took the train when we went to the Eden Project. (and a bus)

    1. It was. And so much nicer not to have to find (and pay for) somewhere to stay overnight. I only wish I'd had some knitting with me.

  4. Well, next time come and stay with us! We live about a mile from that gallery. It's a great exhibition, isn't it? Meanwhile I was in London.

  5. I don't, by the way, think of Edinburgh as being far north. We're in the south (of Scotland).

    1. Only pretty far north. I haven't been very far north, unless you count Stockholm and Helsinki in the same way as I counted New York.

    2. You should go to the Highlands. Sutherland, for example. It's wonderful!
