Krazy Kondo-ing 2

It had to go.
The craziest of crazy paving,
never sparked a scintilla of joy
but was at least functional, until the tree
 started clawing it up
slab by surreptitious slab
the length of its bony root system.

I think I should have been a digger driver.

It maddens me every time I drive through
a certain major road widening scheme.
There are big signs with photos of little boys in hard hats
and high vis jackets saying,

Our dads work here.

  1. Wouldn't you rather be a tree ? Surreptitiously subversive in old age ...

  2. It makes me smile on the odd occasion I see 'my mum works on this site'. as a Civil Engineer I'm tired of hearing 'that's impressive for a woman, is it hard to progress'. Our particular office is close to 50/50 split and as far as I can tell, that's the new normal.

    1. Good to know about the reality. I just thought that in this day and age that they could have included a girl in the picture and mentioned mums in the workforce too, if indeed we need a sign at all. In fact they are rather distracting. There is one every few metres saying things like, "Somebody loves you, drive carefully", "Nobody likes a tailgater", "Welcome to our work area". Given that we are all driving nose to tail at 10 miles an hour none of the signs are particularly helpful.

    2. Those signs are terribly patronising. Could you write to the site works office demanding that they should be erected in all EU languages? Foreigners will want to be patronised too.

  3. We dont have those signs here, or at least I have never seen one!

I like the lengths to which your Kondo-ing is taking you. I may need to jump on board...

  4. Agree with you that crazy paving has to go. However, any excuse to get a digger in your garden when you have little ones to entertain. Mine are too old now, but we would have loved that. On a more serious note, that road works sign is OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

  5. Lucille, how are you going to recycle all that uprooted crazy paving? Perhaps there is someone somewhere not so far away that would be glad to lay it down?

I love the picture of that little cutie watching the proceedings and also think that I would perhaps have liked to be operating that digging vehicle. I've got two younger brothers, and still remember liking the looks of quite a few toys that were designated Their Territory. Don't think they felt quite the same way about my doll collection, but I could be wrong.

    1. It is recycled as hardcore for other jobs Frances. It wasn't nice stone, just concrete.

  6. What I'd like to know is, what are you replacing the crazy, crazy paving with?

    1. It was a difficult decision. I hope it works. If it does I'll show you!

  7. Driving through roadworks recently I saw similar 'My Daddy works here' signs, except that one was sporting the addition of 'When he can be bothered'.
