I do love the picture of the plank walkway. And I'd be interested to hear the background - what habitat is it protecting?
It is a mystery. It stops abruptly at that ridge and the shingle looks much the same all round it. You can step off it with impunity. Elsewhere the gravel pits and lagoons are protected by fences and the whole reserve is designated as a SSSI.
