The weekend

The air was of no temperature at all.
Skylarks upscaled at our approach.
There was no wind.
Motionless ewes stood distant, expectant, unruffled.
The sea flowed innocently over the sand.
Two swans beat and beat their wings triumphant,
the bother of becoming airborne nearly forgotten.
A castle stood untroubled by its past.
The niche needed no embellishment.
Four daffodils could be spared
for the table.

  1. Oh Lucille, I just don't know where to begin.Your pictures - your vision - is so balanced, delicate, peaceful, measured - so many things and I just can't find the words to express it. I look at your pictures and somehow get a very strong feeling of you, of what you are like. A person who can see the world in this way must be so special. I can't even imagine what it would be like to meet you, to spend time with you, to see the everyday world through your eyes must give it a totally different meaning to the one I find.

  6. Beautifully shown and beautifully said, Lucille.

Those wide open sky views really went straight to my hopes that spring weather will reach us over here soon.

  8. Stunning - both the words and the pictures. I used to live on the E Sussex border and this is all looking rather familiar - or am I miles off?

    1. Well spotted. We went to Bodiam Castle.

    2. I thought so - I have accompanied a school trip to Bodiam Castle, dressed in medieval costume and had a go at archery. My son went to school in Bodiam for a few years, so this was my school run! I love that part of the world and sometimes yearn to come back - I do come down and visit from time to time - but it is beautiful here too. Lots of coincidences!

    3. Apart from appreciating this marvellous post, I wonder if you have finally cleared up a mystery for me. My favourite book is Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle and I still have my original cherished Peacock copy of it and have long wished to know which castle features on the cover photograph. I think it might well be Bodiam. Thanks!

  9. Yes, peaceful and lovely. (Though actually a few daffies in that niche - no?)
