A small part of my portfolio
in support of my application
for a prestigious new position.*
The Professorship of PLDO is my dream job.
It will be a challenging and high risk role
but I think that I am ready to make the leap
back into full time employment.
The five years I have spent
blogging away in the foothills
have not been wasted.
Some turned their hands to
quilting hot water bottle covers,
others to knitting snoods for financial gain,
but I resisted the lure of monetisation.
Now the world of academia, hitherto closed to me,
has come just in the nick of time,
to claim me as one of their own.
The photos are beautiful. Hmmming over the dialogue. Perhaps it's the ocean between us.
ReplyDeleteIn that case, let *me* be the first to congratulate you, dear Lucille! I look forward to our paths crossing again over a set of research committee minutes.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Lucille! They say that academics recruited from private enterprise rather than the existing ranks are highly motivated and successful, and you would certainly perform better than certain people I could mention who just sit round spending university resources on unnecessary add-ons for their Ferrari.
ReplyDeleteI've found your contemplation of this leap into academia's special branch enchanting.

Just to clarify, my own vehicle is a bicycle with basket. The motorbike and sidecar were hired from the lovely airport people. And at no point have I ever gone near a Ferrari (as the cctv footage bears out).
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what is going on here...
ReplyDeleteI can only refer you to http://aspiringgolddigger.wordpress.com/
Deleteif you have a spare 24 hours.
I am as confused as you are. But it's all in good fun. As I said to S.Etole, it whiles away the dark evenings.
Bags I have the job of helping you choose new clothes for this coveted position.
ReplyDeleteI depend on you. Adelaide has set the bar wickedly high with her designer wardrobe organised by days of the week. It's Gucci and Louboutin on Thursdays apparently. I am sporting Brora cords, Uniqlo vest and ancient Boden cardi today. And don't even ask about the footwear.
DeleteThank you for enlightening me!
ReplyDelete'Fun', dear Lucille? What is 'fun'? (and no, dear, the porters will not allow you in wearing a Boden cardi).
ReplyDeleteAnd here in the wilds of Texas we feel so sophisticated ordering from the Boden catalog that comes in our Sunday NY Times!!
ReplyDeleteOn which day can you wear jeans and fleece jumpers, with a stunning scarf? Every day? Oh no, that is just me.
ReplyDeleteThat world calls to me ALL THE TIME and of course it would ... it's magic. And you will make magic when you return... best of luck.♥
ReplyDeleteSorry, but you won't get anywhere in life unless you seriously reconsider your attitude in respect of footwear....
ReplyDeleteGood Luck !
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the right choice . I'm sure that my great-great-great grandmother and her sisters , who sewed buttons on shirts for fourteen hours a day near Covent Garden would have agreed ... though the notion of monetisation might have appealed , too !
