Full to the brim

It's all or nothing

at this time of year.
I'm tripping over my feet
and the blog is getting left behind.
We've had the tulips, haven't we?

the wisteria,

the cow parsley.
Wait. Cow parsley.
Isn't that June?

The mad weather.

The lovely house visits.
Here - take a look out of Rudyard Kipling's windows
and catch your breath.

Scotney Castle

doing all the colours
especially in the azalea and acer ranges.

Irises.
Each flower just a one day showing.

Sissinghurst on  a warm sunny Easter weekend.
Are you mad you ask?
The hordes.

But no.

See?

Not

a soul.

Because

if you arrive before opening time

and eschew the café

walk briskly

and purposefully as soon as they will let you in,

you are quite likely

to be ahead of everyone.

And finally, if you aren't paying attention
the grandchildren will be
off to big school

and the shopping trolley
parked under the piano
will be very old hat.

  1. You have beautifully captured the speed of spring, that moment when suddenly flower after flower appears. Sissinghurst looks wonderful, also Scotney Castle. And well done for flying in ahead of the crowds. My littlest boy only has ten or eleven weeks of little school left and then he will actually be off to big school. Enjoy that tiny shopping trolley while you can. CJ xx

  2. As a (fairy?) princess one should always colour co-ordinate ice cream bowl with dress. And what a cheerful little person in stripes! Glorious spring photos Lucille, but I particularly love the shopping trolley under the piano. Great angle for the shot. And how, with those little fingers around is your piano so clean and shiny?

  3. It's a rare collection of blog photos that is so varied, of gorgeous scenes with all the flowers one could want and no people - then just the two perfect little people you do want to see. Lots of pictures but no two even similarly framed, all artistically composed and interesting, so that one doesn't want to come to the end of the show. Thank you, and Happy Spring!!

  6. Oh, Sissinghurst again! You're torturing me! Love the little people, though!

  7. How sad that your milestone was 10. Hmm. Well, you're well past that.
