Sleep, like this spring, is fitful.
The sun when it appears, lifts my spirits instantly
and I tackle a hundred jobs with gusto.
For the rest of the time,
I am somewhat in a state of suspense.
This summer will bring unwelcome changes
but surely plenty to rejoice in too.
I will return with more tulips and bluebell woods presently
because they must not pass unrecorded.
Speaking of which:
we have an abiding love for Victoria Wood.
We saw her live at the Royal Albert Hall,
and my younger son rather surprisingly learnt to sing all the words to
The Ballad of Freda and Barry with a lively piano accompaniment.
He saw her only recently enjoying a meal in Borough Market with friends
but was too shy to interrupt her.

Thank you so much for the wonderful reminder of how truly wonderful Victoria Wood was. This really made me smile. Sorry to hear that sleep still eludes you. I know from experience how truly awful this can be and have spent many a night staring at my bedroom ceiling, silently cursing my peacefully sleeping partner!
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be a lot of unwelcome change this year - I hope yours isn't too extreme. Thank goodness for bluebells and sunshine. I was fond of Victoria Wood too. My abiding memory of her stand-up comedy is her explanation of why she looked so startled in her passport photo - because "someone had just poked an eclair through the curtains." Such a wonderful image. My family still refer to surreal surprises as 'eclair moments'!
ReplyDeleteDear Lucille, as always, your photographs are wonderfully evocative.
ReplyDeleteThe spring seems to be an eye.
Thank you for the link to the marvelous Victoria Wood video. I am astounded as how many talented people, younger than myself, have passed away in this still young year.
Hoping that sweet dreams will soon come your way. xo
I hope the changes bring opportunities too Lucille. Victoria Wood? Brilliant (though we took a lot of teasing about the Freda and Barry bit!!!)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reminder of how marvellous Victoria Wood was. I am sorry to hear sleep is eluding you, that's a tough one.
ReplyDeleteI could write a blog about not sleeping, but too tedious for words. There is a herbal tincture called Dormesan which can help, although it tastes disgusting. I wonder what changes are coming your way. Enjoy the tulips and the bluebells - always special.
ReplyDeleteYes, Victoria Wood! I saw her in Edinburgh years ago, when our children were small. She was so talented, though I liked her songs better than other things. Such a shame. Very sad.
ReplyDeleteOh what a lovely post and accompanying photos that fit so perfectly with your chosen words. I love that you said you would post more bluebell pics as they cannot pass unrecorded.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video clip and tribute to Victoria Wood.
Wishing you a beautiful weekend, Lucille.

unsettling waiting?
ReplyDeleteHope your sleep will return
Laast night I slept peacefully for almost six hours. I have written it in my diary.
ReplyDeleteI am more than sad about Victoria and I thank you for the video.
I was in a Bluebell wood on Wednesday and have pictures of the flowers and almost newborn lambs, it was a delicious day.
I wish you more sunshine.
Sorry - the statue/sculpture looks amost like a Modigliani and I like it very much.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that things are up in the air. I hope that they land without too many bumps,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed my first but not last visit to your lovely blog.
