The kitchen at the Retirement Home
was dark, cold and only superficially functional
with its high cupboards and
very odd eye-level drawers.
We took out this cupboard and its concussing drawers,
and the wall behind it for good measure.
(What we put behind that is another post.)
Then we ripped out all the other cupboards
and poked a new window in this wall
and we liked what we saw.
Of course when I say 'we', I mean 'they', and 'they'
have been taking an unconscionable time about it.
It's not finished yet and I will spare you
the grief they have put us through, because that will recede
but I thought you might like a sneak preview.
Oh yes, the balance is much better for having another window, and taking away all that high-level stuff is a fine idea. I can almost see it now as a deserving backdrop for your shadows and sunbeams. My own memory of equivalent kitchen labours, five years ago, has long receded.
ReplyDeleteGosh, aren't you high up? That is a lovely view from your new window. I hope that it will be finished very soon.
ReplyDeleteLucille this is lovely and peaceful! The kitchen and the view both. And you are so right. The hard parts pass, and eventually we get to enjoy what is left--the good. :-) Enjoy your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteOh, it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled for you and will think of you pausing in the middle of washing up to be amazed by the beauty of your view. Thank you so much for letting us peep through your windows.
ReplyDeleteOh my........ such lovely views. Well worth the wait and I am sure when all the building is over you are going to have a great home.
ReplyDeleteLooking good ... looking very good.
ReplyDeleteit is looking lovely and what a great view? xxx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful views! I think the 'Cause Grief' module is a compulsory part of the training, at least in my experience!
ReplyDeleteLucille, this post's words and photos are so interesting, and make me want to know more about this new home, and how it's being altered to suit who now will live there.
ReplyDelete(I might have just missed a chapter and do apologize for loosing some threads.)
It will all seem worth it.... in the end.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is the most glorious view from those windows!!!
ReplyDeleteIt will all be worth it whever you glance out at that view !
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm intrigued by the eye-level drawers . How tall would one have to be to find anything at the back of them ?
LOVE that view through the brand new window. What a joy.
ReplyDeleteFor me the memory lingers on as I made some bad choices!
ReplyDeleteYours, however, looks lovely.
That view seems worth it to me! But ugh, it sounds like you are enduring some renovation blues...very slow ones. It is lovely so far!
ReplyDeleteIt will all be worth it in the end, it will, it will! And it's already showing some wonderful results.....
