This evening

I am not yet ready to relinquish summer
for pencil sharpening and new notebook autumn.
But I do appreciate the way that the light
reaches in to spotlight neglected corners now
that the sun is hugging the horizon
a little more closely.

  1. I'm with you on the not relinquishing, Lucille. August gives me that Hold Back The Night feeling as I deadhead the flowers with increasing compulsion.

What is the thing, the bird of paradise thing?

    1. Those are origami flying cranes, fifty eight of them made by my son while he waits to fly off to Japan for a year. Cue mother dabbing hanky to eyes and not wanting September to come any closer.

  2. Our summer (weather, at least) lasts far longer than pencil sharpening and new notebooks, but thank you for the lovely images. I'll be on the lookout for my own!

  3. You have such wonderful light in your home and share it nicely. A few leaves are beginning to turn here.

  4. Agreed. I like the light this time of year as well. I feel the turn toward fall and wonder if I am welcoming it or not. It is hard to say. I also say goodbye to a son in September when he goes to University, but fall is so golden in this part of the world.

  5. Me too, but I'm really looking forward to 'proper' autumn, the loveliest time of year.

  7. I just wish the sun would not highlight the filth on my windows! I just can't seem to get them clear.

You have some beautiful things, Lucille.

    1. Thank you. It got a lot easier to clean the rather large windows once I acquired a squeegee.

  8. Although I love autumn I don't want this summer to end just yet - we may not have another one like this for another seven years.

  9. Schools here go back today and I would like to protest .
"They" can't be right . It surely can't be the end of summer yet !
