At the going down of the sun

I found this picture here,
and immediately remembered these words:

Ode of Remembrance

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

from Laurence Binyon's poem For the Fallen
first published in 1914

  1. I wonder what else L Binyon did? That poem is so good that he must have written other things. Must investigate...

  3. It's odd. The phrases of that poem are so familiar to us but I had never thought to find out from where they came..
